Amnesty International's Mission

We are people from across the world standing up for humanity and human rights. Our purpose is to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. We investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world. We received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving work.
With more than 3 million supporters, activists and volunteers in over 150 countries, and complete independence from government, corporate or national interests, we work to protect human rights worldwide. Our vision is of a world in which every person - regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity - enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

2011. A MOMENT WHEN FREEDOM IS BREAKING OUT ALL OVER THE WORLD. JOIN US IN CREATING AN UPLIFTING FILM TO CELEBRATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, THE WORLD’S LARGEST HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION. THE FILM WILL CAPTURE THE CURRENT ZEITGEIST – PEOPLE AROUND THE GLOBE CONNECTED AND COMMITTED TO HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL. MUSIC WILL BE SCORED BY ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING COMPOSER HANS ZIMMER.

The finished film wants to convey “people power.” It will begin with a single lone voice that calls out across the landscape starting a chain reaction… Through layers of sound and voices that build in intensity and energy, we aim to create the feeling of a movement in motion… a tidal wave of undeniable force for human rights, and a document of Amnesty International’s power in 2011.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

In order to create a film that showcases the connection of people globally, we’re asking a community of talented filmmakers such as yourself to be part of a tightly managed global collaboration –  filmmakers that support Amnesty’s vision of a world based on universal human rights. We’re asking you to participate by filming at least one scene in your corner of the world before August 15, 2011. Maybe it’s footage you’ve already shot.  Maybe you can film a scene or two while on location for another job. Or maybe you’re crazy enough to pull together a dedicated shoot that provides this project with a completely surprising perspective.

This is an opportunity to contribute your talents to a historic project.  We’re looking for each director to provide his or her unique visual interpretation and perspective. The result will be a wonderful mix of styles and visual content that will give the finished product life, originality and a unique contemporary feeling.

All contributors will be duly credited online and at the end of the film.  The film and broadcast TV spots generated from your contributions will be shown around the world, from PSA placements to Amnesty International concerts, film events, and local community screenings.
